ORLANDO, Fla. – The UCF women's tennis team is set to host the ITA Southeast Regional from Thursday, October 14, through Monday, October 18, at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida.
The tournament will open on Thursday with the qualifying draws of 32, competing for eight spots in the singles main draw of 64 and doubles main draw of 32.
Anique Kattenberg begins action for UCF on Thursday in the singles qualifying draw with an attempt to make it into the main draw on Friday. Kattenberg is coming off the Bedford Cup where she earned three singles wins
No. 20, Valeriya Zeleva, No. 80 Evgeniya Levashova, Mare Mattel, Nandini Sharma, Jaleesa Leslie, and Nadja Bay Christians will enter directly into the singles main draw and the duos of Zeleva/Levashova, Mattel/Sharma, and Leslie/Kattenberg will also begin doubles play in the main draw on Friday.
Zeleva last saw action at the ITA All-Americans where she played up to the round of 16 after defeating No. 14 Wong from Washington in singles. She has also found success in past ITA Regionals as she made it all the way to the quarterfinals of the singles main draw in 2019.
Levashova last played at the ITA All-Americans, picking up a win against Lamoreaux of Utah in two quick sets.
Mattel is coming off the Bedford Cup where she earned a pair of wins in both singles and doubles. The last time at ITA Regionals, Mattel teamed up with Rebeka Stolmar to win the doubles main draw in 2019. She also made it to quarterfinals in the singles main draw.
Sharma also most recently grabbed a pair of wins in singles and doubles with Mattel while Leslie and Christians both earned two singles wins at the Bedford Cup.
ITA Regional doubles and singles champions and finalist from the 12 tournaments around the nation will qualify for the season-ending ITA National Fall Championships next month in San Diego, California.
