CARY, N.C. – Valeriya Zeleva and Evgeniya Levashova of the UCF women's tennis team highlighted action on the final day of the Wolfpack Invitational/Ranked Spotlight on Sunday, September 26, at the Cary Tennis Park.
In doubles action, Zeleva and Levashova had a big win over No. 40 duo of Megan Davies and Allie Gretkowski by a 6-4 decision.
The pair then competed in singles in exciting fashion. No. 20 Zeleva, playing the #4-8 seed, pulled out an impressive win, defeating No. 16 Isabella Pfenning of Miami, the #3 seed in the tournament by a score of 4-6,6-3, (13-11). No. 80 Levashova also had a thrilling win in an extra long match as she defeated Emma Jackson of Duke by a 6-7(5), 7-6(4), (10-6) decision.
In other singles action, Mattel picked up a win as she was not giving up that second set to Virginia's Hibah Shaikh. She won with scores of 6-4, 7-6(3). Mattel then saw the likes of Nicole Hammond from Michigan, but fell 6-4, 6-2.
Leslie fought hard in a long battle with Sarah Nayer of NC State, but fell by a score of 6-7(5), 7-6(3), (10-4) while Sharma fell to Elza Tomase from Tennessee in 6-0, 6-5.
The doubles team of Mattel and Sharma faced Ohio State's Lucia Marzel-Martinez and Luna Dormet but fell 6-4.
