ORLANDO, Fla. – Head Coach Greg Lovelady has announced the addition of 18 players to the UCF baseball team ahead of the 2022 campaign. Coach Lovelady enters his sixth season at the helm, and currently carries a 157-98 record as the head coach at UCF.
"I'm really really excited about this class, from the talent, to the depth, to the qualities they all possess," said Greg Lovelady, head coach of the UCF baseball team. "Ted [Tom] and Nick [Otte] did a great job evaluating this group and getting them here to UCF. I'm really excited about the future of our program as I see this group having a huge role in the success we have not only this season but in future seasons as well.'
The newest UCF baseball class has the task of replacing 14 departures from last season's squad. Of the Knights' departures, three were selected in the Major League Baseball Draft over the summer and two signed professional contracts with independent league teams.
Left-handed pitched Colton Gordon was selected in the eighth round as the 286th pick in the draft, as catcher Josh Crouch was picked by Detroit in the 11th round and pitcher Jack Sinclair saw his name called by Washington in the 16th round. Right-handed pitcher AJ Jones signed a contract to play for the Chicago Dogs of the American Association of Professional Baseball, an official Partner League of Major League Baseball; and Jordan Rathbone is roaming the outfield for the Gateway Grizzlies of the Frontier League.
Lovelady's incoming class of Knights features seven position players, including two with catching experience and 11 pitchers. Seven of the new Knights bring collegiate baseball experience to Orlando as transfers, while 11 will take the field for the first time as freshman in the spring.
