Knights in the Pros Update: September 14

ORLANDO – While the UCF football team defeated Bethune-Cookman 63-14 to improve to 2-0 on the season this past weekend, 10 former Knights saw action in the first week of the 2021 NFL season, including Mike Hughes or snagged the game-clinching interception in the Chiefs' win over the Browns.

Hughes, who is in his fourth season as a pro but his first in Kansas City, had two tackles in the 33-29, week one victory. After Patrick Mahomes led the Kansas City offense back from two separate 12-point deficits, Hughes sealed the win when he intercepted Baker Mayfield with just 1:10 on the clock.

It marked the third interception of Hughes' career, after having one in his first professional game back on Sept. 9, 2018, with the Vikings against the 49ers, and then grabbing one on Dec. 15, 2019, in a win over the Chargers.

Veteran Latavius Murray was released by the New Orleans Saints a week ago today, Tuesday, Sept. 7. On Thursday, he was modeling the Knights' uniform for the team's social media unveil. On Friday he signed with the Baltimore Ravens, and on Monday Night Football he scored a touchdown. Quite a week for Murray.

The running back carried the ball 10 times for 28 yards and scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter that gave the Ravens a 24-17 lead over the Raiders, but Baltimore ultimately fell 33-27 in overtime. For Murray, it was the 46th rushing touchdown of his career and 48th total touchdown.

Gabriel Davis, who had an impressive seven touchdowns as a rookie with the Buffalo Bills in 2020, didn't miss a beat to start the 2021 campaign, scoring in week one in a loss to the Steelers. Davis caught two balls for 40 yards on Sunday.
