ORLANDO, Fla. – UCF baseball head coach Greg Lovelady signed a contract extension last fall, keeping him in Orlando through the 2025 season. The extension began with the 2020-21 athletic year--coming off the Covid-shortened 2020 season in which the Knights boldly started 11-3, including a three-game road sweep of eighth-rated Auburn.
"I'm incredibly grateful to (vice president and director of athletics) Terry Mohajir, (senior executive associate athletics director) David Hansen and President (Alex) Cartwright for believing in me," Lovelady says. "It means a lot that they would show how much faith they have in me by rewarding me with this."
During the 2021 season, the Knights carried an 18-14 record into the American Athletic Conference Championship, leading the Knights to the program's first AAC title game appearance since 2017.
In June, three Knights were selected in the 2021 Major League Baseball draft. Colton Gordon was selected in the eighth round, Josh Crouch in the 11th, and Jack Sinclair in the 16th. The three most recent selections bring the total to 18 former Knights hearing their names called during the Lovelady era.
"I'm appreciative for all of our players and the hard work that they put in," Lovelady says. "Without them, we wouldn't be able to do all of this. I'm thankful for my coaching staff and all of the other staff members that help our program--their work allows us to have continued success. I am proud of what our program has accomplished in the last five years--and even more excited for the future of our program and athletic department."
The Knights begin preparation for the sixth season under Lovelady this fall. Information about fall intra-squad and exhibitions will be posted on UCFKnights.com.
