Knights Tied for Lead at AAC Championships

PINEHURST, N.C. – The UCF women's golf team began the first round of the American Athletic Conference Championship Sunday morning at Pinehurst No. 6. The Knights end the first day tied for first after shooting 293 (+5) as a team.
 
"With all that has happened in the last year, we are really just thankful for an opportunity to play for a conference championship," said Emily Marron, head coach of the UCF women's golf team. "The girls are in a really good place mentally and are excited to be in Pinehurst competing! We know we have to play smart and be disciplined on this course and they did a great job of that today."
 
Leading the way for the Knights, Ana Laura Collado carded a 72 (E) to open the tournament and sits amongst the leaders, tied for third. Freshman Camille Banzet sits one stroke behind Collado, tied for eighth with a one-over par round.
 
Tunrada Piddon and Alyssa Lamoureux each shot two-over par rounds and are sitting tied for 11th. Piddon posted three birdies in her first round while Lamoureux had two. Rounding out the Knights lineup, Chinatsu Kobayashi carded 75 (+3) on the day to sit T17 in the field of 50 competitors.
 
Tulsa also shot 293 (+5) on day one of The American Championship to sit even with UCF in first place, while No. 20 Houston shot 296 (+8) to round out the top three.

The Knights will tee off round two of The American Championship Monday morning. Tee times will begin for Monday's second round off the first tee at 8 a.m. (ET).
