UCF Starts in The American with War on I-4

ORLANDO, Fla. – The UCF baseball team is ready to turn their attention to American Athletic Conference play this weekend with a trip west to South Florida for the first of two four-game sets between the two ball clubs. Game one of the War on I-4 will take place on Thursday with a 6 p.m. first pitch on ESPN+. On Friday the two teams will play a doubleheader that starts at 2 p.m., with the series finale on Saturday at 1 p.m.
 
With the move the American Athletic Conference play, the Knights will no longer play midweek contests, and will instead focus on four-game weekends against league opponents that usually includes a scheduled Friday doubleheader.
 
GAME 1 – Thursday, 6 p.m.
Colton Gordon - LHP (3-2, 2.08 ERA) vs. RHP - Jack Jasiak (2-3, 2.58 ERA)
 
GAME 2 – Friday, 2 p.m.
Kenny Serwa – RHP (0-0, 5.25 ERA) vs. RHP – Dylan Burns (1-3, 3.86 ERA)

Jack Sinclair – RHP (1-2, 5.01 ERA) vs. RHP – Collin Sullivan (0-0, 6.56 ERA)
 
Game 4 – Saturday, 1 p.m.
AJ Jones – RHP (2-2, 4.91 ERA) vs. TBD
 
NOTES

  • USF leads the all-time series 68-72
  • The four-game set marks the first regular season AAC contest since UCF closed the 2018 regular season against Houston
  • Gephry Pena is riding a 23-game on-base streak, dating back to March 6, 2020
  • Ben McCabe has shown off his power bat in 2021, slugging nine home runs and ranks ninth nationally.
  •  UCF has 35 stolen bases through the opening half of the season to rank 22nd in the nation. Gephry Pena has 10 to lead the Knights.
  • Jordan Rathbone's RBI total is up to 23 after driving in four over the weekend and a pair on Tuesday. The senior's 21 RBI's is second on the Knights behind Ben McCabe.

  • UCF currently leads USF in the 2020-21 War on I-4 all-sport season series 30-15
  • For the baseball teams, each game is worth .75 points for a total of six points available to each program by the conclusion of the eight games
