ORLANDO – UCF's Varsity Eight has been named the American Athletic Conference Boat of the Week after a solid showing at the UVA Invite.
The squad, consisting of Elena Esteban, Leslie Lajoie, Amy Van Ryn, Julie Poulsen, Rusne Dziugtye, Charlotte Wiley, Mia Cleary, Emily Puia and Martina Pischedda, raced three times on the Rivanna Reservoir.
The Knights opened the weekend against No. 9 Tennessee, finishing just five seconds behind the Vols on the opening evening. UCF opened the second day against No. 11 Duke and was just edged by the Blue Devils at the finish, crossing the line in 6:51.5 to Duke's 6:50.1. The Knights responded by closing out the weekend with a 25-second win over North Carolina.
UCF returns to action this weekend, heading to Sarasota for the Sunshine State Invite.
