American Athletic Conference action begins Tuesday. The American moved to a 20-game, double round-robin conference slate for the 2020-21 season, beginning in December.
The Knights earned their highest preseason selection as members of The American for the fourth consecutive year as they were voted to finish second in the coaches poll. The Black and Gold's second place selection in a conference preseason poll also marked the highest selection since 2004 when the Knights were members of the Atlantic Sun Conference.
The Knights also picked up a first place vote from the league coaches for the second straight season. UCF finished the 2019-20 league slate with an 11-5 record, finishing second in the conference standings for a second-straight year behind UConn.
South Florida claimed the top spot in the preseason poll for the first time in league history. UCF edged Tulane for the second spot, while Cincinnati was voted fourth.
The Knights are 2-1 heading into their conference opener on Tuesday.
A trio of Knights are averaging double figures, led by Courtajia Sanders' 12.7 points per game. Sanders tallied her first 20-point performance as a Knight and led all scorers with 22 points in the Dec. 4 win at LSU.
Diamond Battles pulled down a career-best 10 rebounds in Baton Rouge and is UCF's leading rebounder at 6.0 boards per game to go along with 11.7 points per contest. She's also averaging 4.0 assists per game for the Black and Gold.

Brittney Smith joins Sanders and Battles in double figures, averaging 10.3 points per game for UCF. Masseny Kaba is just behind Battles on the baords, averaging 5.7 rebounds per game and Alisha Lewis leads UCF with 4.7 assists per contest.
The Green Wave are 3-1 on the season and are coming off an 81-78 win at Middle Tennessee on Dec. 9.
A trio of Tulane players are averaging double figures, led by Jerkaila Jordan's 19.3 points per game. Krystal Freeman is just under a double-double average with 14.3 points per game and 9.0 rebounds per contest. Arsula Clark averages 13.0 points per game for the Green Wave.
Tulane leads the all-time series, 14-10, and hold the most recent win, a close 60-59 victory in New Orleans in the lone meeting between the programs last season. UCF leads the series 6-4 in Orlando.
UCF heads out for a two-game road trip, beginning with an American Athletic Conference matchup at Tulsa on Dec. 19. The Knights close out the trip in the nonconference finale at Georgia Tech on Dec. 21.
