THE AMERICAN OPENER
American Athletic Conference action begins Tuesday. The American moved to a 20-game, double round-robin conference slate for the 2020-21 season, beginning in December.
The Knights earned their highest preseason selection as members of The American for the fourth consecutive year as they were voted to finish second in the coaches poll. The Black and Gold's second place selection in a conference preseason poll also marked the highest selection since 2004 when the Knights were members of the Atlantic Sun Conference.
The Knights also picked up a first place vote from the league coaches for the second straight season. UCF finished the 2019-20 league slate with an 11-5 record, finishing second in the conference standings for a second-straight year behind UConn.
South Florida claimed the top spot in the preseason poll for the first time in league history. UCF edged Tulane for the second spot, while Cincinnati was voted fourth.

Brittney Smith joins Sanders and Battles in double figures, averaging 10.3 points per game for UCF. Masseny Kaba is just behind Battles on the baords, averaging 5.7 rebounds per game and Alisha Lewis leads UCF with 4.7 assists per contest.
