Dawkins Signs Four-Star Darius Johnson

ORLANDO – The UCF men's basketball team signed four-star recruit Darius Johnson out of Episcopal High School in Virginia to a National Letter of Intent, head coach Johnny Dawkins announced Thursday morning.

Johnson, a point guard who is currently ranked as high as 109th in the nation and the fourth best player out of the state of Virginia, chose UCF over other finalists Alabama and Providence.

"We're thrilled to have signed Darius," Dawkins said. "Having known him for a long time, we know the type of high character and talented player we're getting. Darius has a great feel for the game and has the potential to be a terrific point guard for us. We're excited to officially welcome Darius into the UCF family."

Johnson is the son of UCF director of player development Kelvin Johnson, a long-time friend of Dawkins.

At 6-foot-1, 190 pounds, Johnson averaged 21 points, six rebounds and three assists per game as a junior for Episcopal in 2019-20. He helped lead the school to an 18-7 record and a trip to the Interstate Athletic Conference Championship Game.

Johnson, a four-star recruit by both Rivals and ESPN, earned first-team All-VISAA Division I honors and second-team Washington Post All-Met last year.

He is UCF's first member of the 2021-22 class. The 2020-21 version of the Knights are preparing for the season opener, which is slated for Nov. 28 against Oklahoma at Addition Financial Arena.
