Softball Adds Allyse Volpe

ORLANDO – UCF Softball head coach Cindy Ball-Malone announced the addition of Allyse Volpe to the Knights roster on Wednesday. 

Volpe, an outfielder by trade, comes to the Knights from Pennsylvania, where she spent her first two seasons with Bucknell University.

"We are excited to welcome 'Our Kinda Knight' to the program," said Ball-Malone. "Allyse is a competitor that will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience from both the international and collegiate game. She is a great fit as a person first and will add value to our team on the field as well. We look forward to Team XX inviting her into the family and thriving together as the strongest unit yet."

Volpe has been an absolute hitting machine to this point in her collegiate career, posting a .399 batting average her freshman year with the Bison before hitting at a .352 clip in the COVID-19 shortened 2020 season.

In addition to the ability to get on base at a high rate, Volpe brings another element to the Knights that they would like to see more of in 2021: speed. In 65 career games, Volpe has swiped a total of 30 bag and has hit eight triples.  As a team in 2020, UCF was 39-49 on stolen base attempts.

In her freshman year, Volpe was named Patriot League Rookie of the Year and was a Third Team All-Region outfielder. She earned First Team All-Patriot League honors after leading the league in batting average (.399, 57-143) and on-base percentage (.442).

Volpe has also been a member of Team Canada, suiting up for the Canadian Junior National Team on two occasions to play in the Junior World Championships. She is the current record holder for top batting average at the Canadian National Championship and she helped the Canadian Junior National Team to a bronze medal after defeating Australia, 5-4, in the bronze medal game of the 2019 WBSC U-19 Women's Softball World Cup. It was Team Canada's first-ever bronze medal at the event.
