ORLANDO (UCFKnights.com) – UCF head coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson announced an addition to the women's basketball program with the signing of Syracuse transfer Alisha Lewis.
The Wallingford, Pa., native was named the ninth-best point guard and 35th best overall player in the 2019 class according to espnW 100. She was named the 2017 Delaware state Player of the Year and was a three-time state champion while attending Urusline Academy from 2015-17.
She joins the Knights after one season at Syracuse where she saw action in seven contests, making her debut in the season opener against Ohio on Nov. 5. Per the NCAA transfer rules, Lewis will sit out during the 2020-21 campaign and will have three seasons of eligibility remaining beginning in 2021-22.
Lewis joins Colleen Bucknor, Maniya Custis and Ashton Verhulst, who all inked national letters of intent in November, as UCF's talented 2019-20 signing class. Bucknor, Custis and Verhulst were each among their respective state's nominees for the 2020 McDonald's All-American Games. Bucknor was also named the 2020 Miami Ms. Basketball and her Miami High squad captured the 2020 FHSAA Girls' 7A state championship. Custis was named the 2020 Burlington County Scholastic League Player of the Year. Verhulst was a two-time state champion as a member of the Bishop Miege squad in Kansas.
The Knights return four starters for the 2020-21 campaign, including third team all-conference selection Brittney Smith, rising seniors Masseny Kaba and Courtajia Sanders and rising junior Diamond Battles.
