UCF Heads to Houston for Midweek

ORLANDO (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF women's basketball team returns to action on Wednesday evening, heading to Houston for a midweek contest at the Fertitta Center.
 
The Knights (12-8, 5-4 The American) and the Cougars (12-12, 5-5 The American) tip at 8 p.m. ET.

KNIGHT NOTES
UCF is coming off back-to-back wins for the first time in league play this season after picking up a 62-49 win at Tulsa on Feb. 5. The Knights sit fifth in the league standings, just one game behind Cincinnati and South Florida with seven games remaining.

The Knights are led offensively by Kay Kay Wright who averages 16.3 points per game, 4.4 assists per game and 2.2 steals per game.

The Knights have also seen a sophomore surge from Brittney Smith, who joins Wright as a double-digit scorer for the Black and Gold. Twelve double-digit performances, including a pair of 20-point games, bumped her to an 11.0 points per game scoring average. The Orlando native is also second in rebounding with 5.3 boards per game.

Masseny Kaba leads the Knights with 6.4 boards per game and has 18 blocks on the season while averaging 8.5 points per game. Sianni Martin is UCF's third-leading scorers with 9.2 points per game.
 
The Knights rank 28th nationally in turnovers forced at 20.00 per game. The Knights hold a 3.57 turnover margin which ranks 51st in the nation.
 
UCF leads The American and ranks 58th nationally with a 73.9 free throw percentage.

SCOUTING THE COUGARS
Houston is 12-12 on the season with a 5-5 mark in league play. The Cougars started a two-game win streak with an upset at Tulane on Feb. 1, but are coming off a 53-50 loss at ECU on Feb. 8.
 
Four Cougars average double figures, led by Dymond Gladney's 11.7 points per game and Dorian Branch's 11.6 points per game. Tatyana Hill averages 6.6 boards per contest, while Julia Blackshell-Fair grabs 6.2 rebounds per game. Blackshell-Fair has a team-leading 47 steals and 93 assists. Maya Jones leads Houston with 19 blocks
 
The Knights lead the all-time series 15-6 and have won the last six matchups.
 
NEXT UP
UCF returns to Orlando for a two-game homestand. The Knights host Cincinnati at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The game will serve at the Knights' annual Play 4 Kay game on Saturday. Fans are encouraged to wear pink for breast cancer awareness.
