LEXINGTON, Ky. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF track and field team got off to a fast start at the Rod McCravy Memorial in Nutter Field House on Friday.
Four Knights used personal bests and heat wins to advance to their respective event semifinals on Saturday. UCF has three representatives in the 60-meter dash semifinals while Rayniah Jones advanced to the semifinals of the 60-meter hurdles.
Ciara Holback opened her day by matching her personal best mark in the 60-meter dash. She won her heat in 7.42 and posted the third-fastest time of the day. The junior closed out the day with a personal-best mark of 23.72 to finish fourth overall in the 200-meter dash.
Shian Hyde won her heat with a time of 7.43 to join Holback in Saturday's 60m semifinals. Loren Gallmon will join Hyde and Holback in the semis after posting a personal best time of 7.54 to finish 11th overall.
In her second indoor meet, Jones improved her 60-meter hurdle time by more than a tenth of a second, crossing the line 12th overall and second in her heat at 8.54 seconds.
The Black and Gold raced a pair of distance medley relay squads for the first time of the indoor season. Katie Pinnell, Loren Gallmon, Victoria Jung and Jamie Tomassetti picked up a top-five finish, crossing the line in 12:02.14, which puts the quartet at eighth on the UCF all-time performers list.
Kaitlyn Soltis, Jewel Walters, Cydni Turner and Charlotte Crook finished seventh in the DMR with a time of 12:09.26.
Adrienne Adams improved her personal best in the weight throw by nearly a foot in her second meet of the season. She finished second in her heat with a mark of 52-0.75/15.87m. One week after making her collegiate debut in the triple jump, Kiara Lee debuted in the long jump on Friday with a distance of 16-3.75/4.97m.
UCF closes out the Rod McCravy Memorial on Saturday. Field action begins at 11 a.m. with the shot put and triple jump, while the track events begin at noon with the 60m semifinals.
