ORLANDO (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF women's basketball team set the tone from the jump in a 75-49 win over Delaware on Sunday afternoon in Addition Financial Arena.
UCF (3-2) scored the first five points of the day and never looked back. The Knights built a nine-point lead in the opening frame and held a 17-10 advantage after the first 10 minutes.
Delaware (0-4) cut the Black and Gold advantage to eight, 21-13, with 7:03 left in the second quarter, but back-to-back three-pointers from Georgia Gayle pushed the edge back to double figures, 27-13. The Knights held a 36-23 lead at the break.
The Black and Gold continued to push out of halftime and held a 52-35 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Over the final 10 minutes, the Knights poured in 23 points for the final tally of 75-49.
Three Knights finished in double figures, led by Georgia Gayle's 18 points. Sianni Martin added 16 and was four-for-four from the three-point line. Kay Kay Wright tallied her second career double-double with 11 points and a career-best 11 assists to go along with five steals.
Teamwork makes the dream work.
- In Sunday's win, 10 Knights saw action in the game, with all 10 scoring at least three points.
- Two members of the squad recorded their first points as Knights as Jnaya Walker finished with four and Ahna Burney added three.
- UCF set season highs in six categories and tied its season high with 17 assists. The Knights set season-best marks in:
- Points (75)
- Steals (15)
- Rebounds (40)
- Three-point field goals made (12)
- Three point field goal percentage (54.5)
- Free throws made (15)
The Knights turned in a three-point performance.
- The Knights made 12 three-point field goals in the game, setting a season-best and finishing one shy of UCF's single-game record.
- The Black and Gold shot 54.5 percent from beyond the arc, with two Knights finishing perfect from deep.
- Four Knights contributed to the hot shooting:
- Georgia Gayle finished with a season-best six triples.
- Sianni Martin was 4-for-4.
- Kay Kay Wright and Ahna Burney each sank one three-pointer.
Another day, another record for Kay Kay.
- Wright entered the game needing just three assists to move into third on UCF's career chart.
- She reached the mark in the first quarter…and added eight more to push her career total to 404.
- The Orlando native holds sole possession of third and is 11 shy of matching Julie Cardinale (1983-87) for second on the career list.
- The 11 dimes mark a career-best for Wright, who previously had 10 in a pair of matchups against Memphis during her freshman and sophomore campaigns.
Next up, UCF continues its homestand, hosting Stetson at 1 p.m. on Nov. 27.
