ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF Softball team took a moment to look toward the future on Wednesday afternoon as head coach Cindy Ball-Malone announced her 2020 recruiting class, featuring eight players from the high school ranks.
"We are excited to announce our 2020 class with eight talented young ladies," said Bear. "This group carries all elements of the game with three pitchers that each show different looks, infield, outfield, power, speed and a strong competitive drive. These strong athletes will make an immediate impact on the field, in the weight room, in the classroom and in the community."
The Knights will add a well-rounded group in this year's signing class they bring on three pitchers, an outfielder, and a quartet of infielders. The class features athletes hailing from Virginia, California all parts of Florida.
Grace Jewell | 6'0 | RHP | Chesapeake, Va.
- Born August 16, 2002 to parents Darlanna and Tim Jewell
- Attends Grassfield Highschool
- Earned All-Class 6 Region A First Team in her junior season
- Earned the Silver Bat Award after posting a .429 batting average with 6 homeruns her junior season
- Intends to Major in Sports Journalism and Film
Jordan Almasy | 5'7 | RHP | Wesley Chapel, Fla.
- Born November 5, 2001 to parents Jade Kruger and Frank Almasy
- Attends Wesley Chapel High School
- Broke high school records for strikeouts in a game, strikeouts in a season, pitching wins, and innings pitched in her junior year
- Also is a Varsity Weightlifter and has played Varsity golf for two years
- Intends to major in Biomedical Neuroscience
Angelina DeVoe | 5'0 | LHP | Carson, Calif.
- Born April 22, 2002 to parents Derek and Christine DeVoe
- Attends Phineas Banning High School
- Named First Team All-League, League Pitcher of the Year, First Team All-City Section, First Team All-Area and Team Pitcher of the Year every season she has played
- Named Team MVP in freshman and junior seasons
- Intends to major in Criminal Justice
Emmerson Lee | 5'8 | 3B/2B | R/R | Clovis, Calif.
- Born May 28, 2002 to parents Joseph and Dallas Lee
- Attends Bullard High School
- Helped lead her high school team to a 23-6 record, making it to the Valley Championship game her junior year
- Named Valley Defensive player of the year, First-team all-league and Bullard High School Gold Glove winner with a .980 fielding% in her junior year
- Intends to major in Kinesiology
Kennedy Searcy | 5'6 | SS | L/R | Jacksonville, Fla.
- Born August 22, 2002 to parents David Searcy and Nia Franklin
- Attends Atlantic Coast High School
- Was named All-Conference every year in high school
- Also plays golf
- Made All-First Coast Second team sophomore year and All-First Coast First team junior year
- Intends to major as a Nurse Anesthetist
Marina Rao | 5'7 | MI | R/R Trinity, Fla.
- Born August 11, 2002 to parents John and Dana Rao
- Attends J.W Mitchell High School
- Named First team All-Conference, Defensive MVP, Varsity Captains Award her junior year
- Named First team All-Conference, Offensive MVP, Defensive MVP her sophomore year
- High school conference champion in 2017 and 2019
- Intends to major in Business
Katie Burge | 5'3 | MI/OF | L/R | Miami, Fla.
- Born January 17, 2002 to parents Emma and Neil Burge
- Attends Miami Palmetto Senior High
- Was named First Team All-Dade County, First Team All-State and team MVP in her junior season
- Named offensive player of the year and First team All-State in her sophomore year
- Intends to major in Business, Pre-Finance
Megan Wright | 5'5 | OF | L/L | Apopka, Fla.
- Born February 12, 2002 to parents Kelly and Michael Wright
- Attends Mount Dora Christian Academy
- Won high school District Champion every year that she has played
- Named First team All-District sophomore and junior year
- Intends to major in Sports and Exercise Science
