NASHVILLE, Tenn. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF women's basketball team dropped a 72-37 decision to Belmont on Saturday evening in the Curb Event Center.
The Knights (1-1) took an early 6-4 lead in the first quarter, but Belmont (2-0) went on to outscore UCF 9-2 to take a 13-8 lead after the first 10 minutes. The Bruins went on to take a 31-17 edge into halftime and led 55-26 heading into the fourth quarter. The Knights used five points from Sianni Martin, four from Courtajia Sanders and a pair from Georgia Gayle for 11 points in the fourth quarter, but the Bruins responded with 17 in the last frame for the final tally of 72-37.
Courtajia Sanders and Sianni Martin each finished with 10 points to lead the Knights. Sanders pulled down a team-best six rebounds, while Jnaya Walker snagged five. Ahna Burney, in her UCF debut, led the Black and Gold with five steals, while Martin finished with four.
Next up, UCF heads to FGCU on Nov. 13 for a 7 p.m. contest.
