FORT MYERS, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF women's tennis team wrapped up their first day of Bedford Cup action on Friday afternoon.

The top seeded doubles tandem of Nandini Sharma and Domenika Turkovic steamrolled their way to a 6-0 victory over USF's Janvhi Clark and Margriet Timmermans in the first round. They'll take on Florida's Sydney Berlin and Tsveta Dimitrova on Saturday at 8 a.m.

Each singles player competed in two matches today, playing back to back matches. Sharma won both her matches as the No. 2 singles seed in the "A" singles draw. She topped Stetson's Brooke Milner 6-1, 6-2 before advancing to defeat Natalia Boltinskaya of FAU 6-2, 6-0. Sharma now sits in the Final Four and will square off with the No. 4 seeded Ana Paula Melilo of UNF on Saturday at 9 a.m.

Valentina Martin's day started with a loss to UNF's Constanza Gorches by a count of 6-3, 6-3 in the "B" singles draw, sending Martin to the consolation bracket. In her first consolation match, Martin got the best of Stetson's Danel Ashirova by a count of 6-2, 6-4. With the win, she earned a bye into the final four of the "B" consolation bracket. That match will take place on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.

Turkovic battled in two tough contests today but ended up falling in both her matches in the "A" draw, eliminating her from the singles portion of the tournament. Her first round match was against the top seeded Kamila Umarova of FIU. Turkovic made the match as close as it gets, but it was Umarova who got the narrow victory by a count of 7-5, 3-6, 10-8. Turkovic's match in the consolation bracket was just as close, as she battled USF's Grace Eland. Turkovic won the first set by a count of 6-3 only to see Eland answer back in the second set with a 6-3 win of her own. The two would duel to a third set supertiebreaker, but Eland would come out on top 3-6, 6-3, 10-8.
