ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) –The UCF women's tennis team continues their fall season at the ITA Southeast Regional Championship in Tallahassee, Fla. from Oct. 17-21. Seven Knights will be competing in the tournament, with four players competing on doubles tandems.
The first of the seven is No. 29 Valeriya Zeleva. She looks to build off the momentum of making it to the final four of the main draw consolation bracket at the ITA All-American Championships. Zeleva is 4-3 so far this fall with three wins over top 50 ranked opponents.
No. 62 Ksenia Kuznetsova is looking forward to improving on her performance at last week's tournament where she went 1-1 in qualifying action. Kuznetsova will start the tournament in the main singles draw.
Rebeka Stolmar returns to action after a huge performance last week at the ITA All-American Championships. She battled through the qualifying round to reach the main draw. She fell to the nation's No. 8 singles player in the first round of the main draw, sending her to the consolation bracket. Stolmar went on to win the main draw consolation bracket, which ended up being her 50th career singles win at UCF.
Marie Mattel looks to continue her hot start to the fall. She reached the Final Four of UCF's first tournament this fall before falling to the 2018 NCAA Singles Champion. She looks to build off her remarkable rookie campaign in which she earned The American Freshman of the Year.
Nandini Sharma will go back to work this week after dominating the Bedford Cup. Sharma was able to clinch the title after topping UNF's Lucia Montano 6-4, 6-4. Sharma was crowned the tournament champion as she won four consecutive matches in the main singles draw.
Domenika Turkovic sits in the main draw for this tournament as well. She went 2-2 during the Bedford Cup, with all four matches reaching a third set super tiebreaker.
Valentina Martin will be the first Knight to get a taste of action in this tournament. She will have to battle through the qualifying draw in singles play before advancing to the main draw. Martin is 2-2 so far this fall.
Of the seven Knights travelling to Tallahassee, four of them will participate in doubles. Both No. 31 Stolmar/Mattel and Sharma/Martin will be competing in the main draw.
Mattel and Stolmar are back and better than ever after competing in the ITA All-Americans. This tandem is expected to continue their success after making it to the Final Four of the main draw. Sharma and Martin make up the other pair and will be in action as a unit for the first time this fall.
