Knights Set for American Kickoff in Rhode Island

ORLANDO – The start of another football season is upon us, which means head coach Josh Heupel and a few Knights are set to head north to Rhode Island for the American Athletic Conference Football Summer Kickoff and Media Days.

Heupel will be joined by senior center Jordan Johnson, junior wide receiver Gabriel Davis and junior safety Richie Grant at Gurney’s Newport Resort and Marina on July 15 and 16 as the group meets with the media to preview the 2019 season.

The group will head up Monday for photo shoots and interviews with ESPN and CBS Sports Network, before taking part in the annual American Athletic Conference clambake. Each of the past two years the Knights have dominated the consumption of lobsters, but with one of the three Knights – Jordan Johnson – being a vegan, that trend doesn’t look likely to continue.

Tuesday morning the crew will be up early to head from Commissioner Mike Aresco and then run through the carwash of interviews with local and national media in attendance in Rhode Island.

The American Digital Network will host a one-hour live show Monday evening at 7 p.m. from the clambake, interviewing coaches, student-athletes and guest, and then start up again at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday with the announcement of the preseason poll.

The Knights will open up preseason camp July 31 in preparation of Aug. 29’s season-opener against Florida A&M.
