Moon, Balcazar Lead Knights at Gator Invite

GAINESVILLE (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF women’s golf team is in sixth place and two Knights are currently in the Top 10 at the Florida Gator Invitational, which opened with two rounds of play at the Mark Bostick Golf Course Saturday.

Freshman Elizabeth Moon is currently tied for sixth place and just two strokes off the lead. Junior Maria Balcazar is tied for ninth and is only three shots back.

Moon was 2-over with a 72 in the first round. But she stormed back to go 3-under and card a 67 in the second round. She turned in four birdies and an eagle in the second round. She is among the top six in the 75-player field in both Par 3 and Par 4 scoring.

Balcazar was consistent Saturday, carding back-to-back scores of even par 70. She had three birdies and three bogeys in each round. Balcazar is among the tournament leaders in scoring on Par 5 holes, as well.

Sophomore Ana Laura Collado turned in scores 69 (-1) and 74 (+4) to go 3-over for the day. She’s tied for 24th. Chinatsu Kobayashi and Alyssa Lamoureux are both 11-over. Kobayashi’s two rounds resulted in scores of 78 (+8) and 73 (+3). Lamoureux turned in scorecards that read 75 (+5) and 76 (+6).

On the team leaderboard, Miami was the only team to go under par Saturday. The 24th-ranked Hurricanes were -3 and hold a three-shot lead over No. 8-ranked Florida. No. 34 Campbell (+2), No. 20 Clemson (+3) and No. 40 Tennessee (+8) sit in front of UCF (+10).
