UCF Wins Seven Events at Knights Invite

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF track and field team continues to roll in its outdoor campaign, collecting seven event titles at the UCF Knights Invite at the UCF Track and Field Complex this weekend.

The Knights earned their first victory of the weekend on Friday night as Kaitlyn Soltis took the top spot in the 1500-meter run with a personal best time of 4:45.32.

On Saturday, Shian Hyde picked up the first event victory of the day, winning the 100-meter dash in 11.63.

Caitlin Pinnell added a third title for UCF and she and teammate Charlotte Crook took the top two honors in the 800-meter run. Both Knights turned in personal best marks that rank among the top five on the American Athletic Conference outdoor performance list.

For the second straight meet, Devin D’Oliveira captured the 400-meter hurdles title. D’Oliveira, who made her outdoor hurdle debut last weekend, shaved a second off her time to win in 59.11.

Shortly after being recognized as part of UCF’s Senior Day celebration, Jhane’ Carter claimed the shot put title with a mark of 47-6.25/14.48m.

Competing in the 3000-meter run for the first time in her outdoor collegiate campaign, Victoria Jung blazed to a victory. Her 10:16.30 time put her just eight seconds off UCF’s school record in the event.

The Black and Gold’s “A” 4x400 relay squad closed out the meet in dramatic fashion. Running neck and neck through the first two and a half legs with fellow American Athletic Conference competitor UConn, the Huskies were able to pull ahead before the final handoff. UConn held an edge down the backstretch and into the final turn. As the squads headed into the final 100-meters, Loren Gallmon made her move, passing the Huskies to clinch the victory for the Knights.

UCF returns to action next weekend at the Pepsi Florida Relays in Gainesville.
