ORLANDO (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF softball team opened American Athletic Conference play with a 2-0 win over UConn Friday night at the UCF Softball Complex.
Alea White picked up the win in the circle to improve to 14-6 on the season and 1-0 in conference play.
Karissa Ornelas led the Knights on offense going 2-for-2 at the plate, while Jazmine Esparza and Tamesha Glover drove in runs for UCF.
UCF improves to 21-9 overall and 1-0 in conference play with two more games left in the series with UConn.

- Head coach Cindy Ball-Malone picked up her first win in The American with the shutout.
- White tossed her 14th complete game and fifth shutout of the season striking out six Huskies and giving up just two hits.
- Esparza went 1-for-2 at the dish driving in a run with a double and drew a walk. She has a team-leading 21 RBI.
- Glover grabbed her 10th double of the season and 13th RBI going 1-for-3 on the day.
- Damaria Cannon collected her first hit at the UCF Softball Complex as a Knight coming in to pinch hit.
- Aubrey Johnson, Cassady Brewer, and Erin Emanuel each tallied hits for UCF.
- The Knights are now 13-5 at the UCF Softball Complex.
- UCF extends their advantage in the series with UConn to 13-4 overall and 8-3 in conference play.
- ECU, South Florida, and Wichita State all picked up wins in conference play to start off 1-0 with the Knights.
- The shutout over the Huskies is the Knights ninth shutout this season.

UCF: 2-0 | 1st | After Denali Schappacher drew a walk, Glover drove Schappacher in with a double to center. Esparza then doubled to left center to bring home Glover.
