Knights 6th After Day 1 at UCF Challenge

ORLANDO (UCFKnights.com) -- The UCF women's golf team is in sixth place, just five strokes behind the leader, after one round of play at the UCF Challenge, which is being held at Eagle Creek Golf Club. 

Elizabeth Moon and Anna Hack are leading the way for the Knights. Both are 3-under par, one stroke off the individual lead and tied for eighth place. Moon tallied four birdies one one bogey on the day. Hack, who is representing UCF as an individual in this tournament, also tallied four birdies and one bogey in the first round.

Junior Maria Balcazar also had a solid first round for the Knights. She carded birdies on four of her final seven holes to move to -2. Balcazar is tied for 17th heading into round two.

Alyssa Lamoureux carded an even par score of 72 Sunday, while Ana Laura Collado was 1-over with a 73. Moon, Balcazar, Lamoureux and Collado accounted for the Knights' team score in the first round. Nicolette Donovan, who tallied a 2-over 74, rounded out the team lineup.

Rachel Silverman and Chinatsu Kobayashi are also taking part in the tournament as individuals for UCF. Silverman was was +2 in the first round, while Kobayashi was 3-over. 

College of Charleston holds the team lead after the first round at 9-under. Miami is in second, one stroke off the pace. Kent State is in third at -7, while Kennesaw State (-6) and Vanderbilt (-4) are just in front of UCF (-3). 

The Knights' 3-under total for day one was better than five teams that came in ranked in the Top 50 of the latest Golfstat rankings.
