UCF Wins Moon Golf Invite

Melbourne, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF women’s golf team heads back to Orlando with another first-place finish Tuesday at the Moon Golf Invitational at Duran Golf Club.

UCF finished nine strokes ahead of the second-place finisher, No. 30 Louisville, with a three-round total of 289(-15). The Knights shot 280(-8) Tuesday to secure their victory over 15 other teams including nine Power Six foes.

“It was a total team effort this week and I could not be prouder of the team’s effort,” said head coach Emily Marron. “Today was one of those days where everyone was firing on all cylinders and that’s what clinched it for us. I was really impressed with Chinatsu’s performance. That was one of her best college events ever and she was the difference maker for us this week.”

The Knights were led by sophomore Chinatsu Kobayashi who finished tied for third overall with a 210(-6) and paced all golfers with the best par-four scores averaging 3.77 strokes per par four and was seven-under on all par four holes combined.

Elizabeth Moon shot her lowest round of the tournament with a 68(-4) Tuesday to help secure a UCF win. In total, the freshman standout shot 212(-4) over three rounds.

Junior Maria Balcazar was just behind with a 213(-3) three-day total after shooting 70(-2) Tuesday afternoon to finish tied for 13th overall, while Alyssa Lamoureux totaled 217(+1) for 54-holes.

Ana Laura Collado shot her lowest round of the event with a 71(-1) in the final day to bring her final total to 226(+10).

As a team, the Knights were the best par-three team in the field and had the fourth-highest number of birdies with 49.

UCF defeated six nationally-ranked teams including No. 24 Oklahoma, No. 31 Campbell, No. 42 Old Dominion, No. 50 Augusta, and No. 32 Kennesaw State.

This is the second victory of the season for the women's golf team after winning the Princess Anne Invite in October.
