Moon Ties for Title at Florida Challenge

TAMPA (UCFKnights.com) -- Elizabeth Moon tied for medalist honors at the rain-shortened Florida Challenge Monday at the Tampa Palms Golf & Country Club.

The Knights were taking part in the first spring event of their 2018-19 season. With heavy rains in the area, the one-day event was shortened from two rounds to one. As a team, the Knights took third in at the Florida Challenge.

Moon finished 4-under at the Florida Challenge, tying with South Florida's Ramya Meenakshisundaram for top honors. Moon turned in seven birdies during the course of her round. She finished strong, scoring birdies on the Par 3 17th and the Par 4 18th holes.

Teammate Nicolette Donovan, who was playing as an individual, was just two strokes off the pace, finishing in a tie for third place. Ana Laura Collado and Alyssa Lamoureux were both 2-over par and tied for eighth.

Chinatsu Kobayash (+4, T-13th), Rachel Silverman (+11, T-28th), Maria Balcazar (+12, T-31st) and Anna Hack (+13, T-33rd) rounded out the Knights' participants in the tournament.

South Florida won the team competition at 7-over par, while Miami was two strokes back at 9-over. UCF was 12-over for the day. FIU (+18), FAU (+28) and Jacksonville (+32) rounded out the field.

The Knights will now prepare to host their lone home event of the spring. The UCF Challenge begins Sunday and runs through Tuesday at Eagle Creek Golf Club.
