UCF vs. Temple |
TAMPA, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF women’s soccer team opens its American Athletic Conference tournament on Wednesday, facing Temple in Tampa. UCF earned the third seed and will face the sixth-seeded Owls at 4:30 p.m. in Corbett Stadium.
The Black and Gold bring a 9-6-1 overall record into the tournament. Five Knights were recognized by the league’s coaches on Tuesday. Stefanie Sanders was a unanimous selection, joining Vera Varis on the first team. Dina Orschmann and Carrie Lawrence were named to the second team and Kristen Scott was an all-rookie team selection.
Varis extended UCF’s streak to seven consecutive seasons with at least one Knight earning a major conference award as she repeated as The American Goalkeeper of the Year. The Knights opened league play at Temple on Sept. 27, earning a 2-1 victory in Philadelphia. UCF improved to 8-0 all-time against the Owls with the victory.
Temple enters the tournament with a 7-10-1 overall record. A pair of Owls were recognized on Tuesday. Aisha Brown was named to the all-conference first team after netting six goals in 2018. Gabi Johnson earned a spot on the all-rookie team after scoring five goals with a pair of assists for 12 points on the season.
