UCF Heads to Atlanta for ITA Regionals

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF women’s tennis team is set to compete in the ITA Southeast Regional this weekend at Georgia Tech. Six Knights will face competitors from 14 other institutions at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex.

The winners of the singles and doubles flights will earn automatic bids to the 2018 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships that will be held Nov. 7-11 at the Sunrise Tennis & Racquet Complex in Surprise, Ariz.

The qualifying draw opened on Thursday afternoon with freshman Valentina Martin earning her spot in the main draw by defeating Jessica Cantrell from Kennesaw State, 6-3, 6-3.

A trio of Knights were seeded in the top 16 heading into the weekend. No. 10 seed Rebeka Stolmar will face Vanja Klaric from South Florida in the opening round. Ksenia Kuznetsova, the No. 14 seed, will take on Paula Boixader of Georgia Southern, and No. 13-seeded Domenika Turkovic will battle North Florida’s Lucia Montano in the first round.

Fellow Knights Sara Culbertson will start her weekend against Alara Hollyfield of Mercer. After punching her ticket to the main draw, Martin will face the No. 8 seed Morgan Coppoc from Georgia. Rounding out the Knights’ single action, senior Natalia Serrano will go up against Annette Goulak of Georgia.

In the doubles flight, Kuznetsova and Turkovic will start the weekend against Florida State’s No. 1 seed Petra Hule and Ana Oparenovic. Culbertson and Martin will go up against Alee Clayton and Viviak Wolff of Georgia. Serrano and Stolmar will team up to face Sofia Perez and Sarah Kelly from FGCU.

The Knights wrapped up a strong weekend at the Bedford Cup, their first collegiate tournament of the fall. Stolmar posted a pair of runner-up finishes to lead the Black and Gold in singles and doubles, along with playing partner Kuznetsova.

2018 ITA SOUTHEAST REGIONAL SCHEDULE
–Thursday, Oct. 18 – Qualifying Draw – 1 round of doubles, 2 rounds of singles
-Doubles begin at 9 a.m. followed by singles at approximately 10 a.m.
–Friday, Oct. 19 – Main Draw – Doubles round of 32, Singles rounds of 64 and 32
-Doubles being at 9 a.m. followed by singles round of 64 approx. 11 a.m.
–Saturday, Oct. 20 – Main Draw – Doubles round of 16 and quarterfinals, Singles round of 16; Consolation
-Doubles begin at 9 a.m. followed by singles round of 16 approx. 2:30 p.m. (Consolation all day)
–Sunday, Oct. 21 – Main Draw – Singles quarterfinals and semifinals, doubles semifinals; Consolation
-Singles begin at 10 a.m. followed by doubles approx.. 4:30 p.m. (Consolation all day)
–Monday, Oct. 22 – Main Draw – Singles and Doubles Finals; Consolation Singles and Doubles Finals
-Play begins at 9 a.m.
