ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – As the UCF women’s soccer team reports to campus to begin preparations for the 2018 campaign, the Knights announce four newcomers to their roster.
UCF welcomes a pair of French freshmen in Mathilde Kack and Elise Legrout, along with two transfers, Samantha Chung and Eden Kawabe.
A native of Nateuil-la-Forêt, Kack joins the Knights after representing her home country at the Under-19 European Championship. The defender started both of France’s matches in Switzerland. In her five European championship appearances, she has accumulated 630 minutes of action between the U17 and U19 squads.
Legrout brings additional international experience to Orlando, playing in a pair of friendlies with France’s B squad in 2018. A native of Dieppe, she has also represented her country on the U17 and U19 teams, capturing the 2016 UEFA U19 Championship. The midfielder was teammates with former Knight Tatiana Coleman at Juvisy before competing for VGA Saint-Maur.
The Knights added a pair of transfers to their squad in Chung and Kawabe. Appearing in 58 contests over three seasons at Florida, Chung adds depth for UCF in the midfield. As a sophomore, she started 13 of the last 14 matches, averaging 47 minutes a contest. Kawabe comes to UCF after a pair of campaigns at San Diego State.
UCF officially opens its season on Friday as the Knights hold their first training session of 2018. The Knights’ roster features 11 returning players who clocked time in at least 10 matches last year. Among those returners include American Athletic Conference Goalkeeper of the Year Vera Varis and Rookie of the Year Dina Orschmann, along with all-rookie team selection Stefanie Sanders.
