2018 Preview: Running Backs

2018 Preview - The football season is just around the corner. Leading into camp, fans will have an opportunity to get a look at what the Knights will have in store for the 2018 campaign with position-by-position previews. Watch highlights of returners and read up on what to expect this fall.

Running back may be the deepest position on the offense for the Knights, with an asterisk (or maybe a slash), when you combine the duo of Adrian Killins Jr. and Otis Anderson.

Returning starter Killins is one of the fastest men in college football. He was named First Team All-American Athletic Conference after rushing for 790 yards and 10 touchdowns. Killins averaged 6.5 yards per carry. While he showed his speed often throughout the course of the season in 2017, it was never more on display than in a school-record 96-yard streak to the end zone vs. Memphis in the regular-season matchup vs. the Tigers.

While he's listed as a wide receiver, Anderson should be mentioned in any discussion of the Knights' running game. Despite his roster position, he lined up in the backfield often. Anderson carried the ball 69 times and the multi-talented athlete averaged 7.2 yards per carry to lead the team in that category in 2017. Senior Taj McGowan returns as a reliable runner with a bit more size. McGowan rushed for eight touchdowns last season and was utilized heavily in some short-yardage situations. He has 11 rushing TDs in his UCF career.

Also returning is Greg McCrae, who appeared in all 13 games as a freshman in 2017. He rushed for 151 yards, averaging 5.8 yards per carry, and scored a pair of touchdowns.

Highly-touted redshirt freshman Bentavious Thompson was one of the top running backs in the nation in the 2017 recruiting class. He red-shirted last season and will add even more depth to the position group in 2018.

July 2 - Receivers/Tight Ends
July 4 - Defensive Line
