Easy Past ECU

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - Nine different Knights scored in the 9-3 win over ECU Saturday at the UCF Softball Complex to secure the series win heading into the final home game of the season.

Junior Brooke Barlow led the charge for the Knights going 2-for-2 with a run scored, an RBI and a pair of walks. Erin Emanuel connected for her first home run as a Knight, while Jazmine Esparza added her third homer of the season to knock in two runs.

UCF drew 12 walks in the contest, tying their single game record set in 2016 against Indiana State.

With two consecutive wins, the Knights improve to 33-21 overall and 11-9 in conference play with one regular season game remaining.

The Black and Gold offense got the bats going in the second inning with Emanuel delivering her first home run as a Knight on a full count to go up 1-0 on the Pirates. Brooke Barlow blasted a double to right center to bring up Esparza who cranked the first pitch over the left field fence for a two-run shot and a 3-0 UCF lead.

The Knights picked up another run in the third after a single from Barlow brought home Courtney Rotton who reached after being hit by a pitch to start the inning.

The Pirates answered in their next at-bats after Tate McClellan homered to center field to narrow the Knights lead to 4-3.

UCF wasn't phased as they put up four runs in the bottom of the fourth drawing three consecutive bases-loaded walks along with a sacrifice fly from Emanuel to take a commanding 8-3 advantage.

The Knights tacked on one more run in the fifth to bring the final score to 9-3 thanks to a deep double to center from Rotton to plate Brewer.

Alea White tossed her 26th complete game of the 2018 campaign allowing three runs on seven hits to move to 24-14 on the season.

Brewer and Schappacher continue their on-base streaks to 21 and 12, respectively.

ON DECK
The Knights play their final home game of the season on Sunday with a 11 a.m. start time. At the conclusion of the game, the celebration of seniors, Courtney Rotton and Megan Greenwell will commence.
