SARASOTA, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – One day of racing at the 2018 NCAA Championships is in the books for the UCF rowing team.
All three of UCF's boats rowed on Friday morning at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota.
The Varsity Eight, consisting of Nicole Mayer, Lara Maule, Julie Poulsen, Rusne Dziugyte, Marija Medelinskaite, Grace Lindberg, Mia Cleary, Edvina Nesukaityte and Luci Derrick, held an open-water lead over Rhode Island heading down the course. The crew rowed across the line in 6:46.80, its fastest time since
The Varsity Four, consisting of Elena Esteban, Aly Derksen, Abbie Pritchard, Jessica Matteson and Paula Parks, crossed the line in 7:49.45.
The Second Varsity Eight, consisting of Catherine Harms, Alyssa Ramos, Ieva Medelinskaite, Michaela Gundrum, Sydney Hays, Magdalena Pasternak, Shannon Perry, Leslie Lajoie and Rachel Rabinowitz, at 7:14.48.
After a weather delay, the squads returned to the water for the afternoon repechages. All three crews advanced to the C/D semifinals on Saturday.
UCF's V8 posted its second-fastest time of the season on Friday afternoon. The squad crossed the line in 6:25.209, more than 20 seconds ahead of Jacksonville.
The V4 rowed across the line in 7:26.835, more than 20 seconds ahead of Rhode Island to advance to the C/D semifinal.
UCF's 2V8 rounded out the day with a time of 6:46.323.
The Varsity Eight will race at 9:22 a.m., followed by the Second Varsity Eight at 9:30 a.m. The Varsity Four will conclude the day at 9:46 a.m.
