SARASOTA, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - The UCF rowing team raced faster on the second day of Sunshine State Invitational action in all five events at Nathan Benderson Park on Saturday morning.
The Varsity Eight set the tone for the day, winning its race with a time of 6:24.60. The boat, consisting of Catherine Harms, Edvina Nesukaityte, Ieva Medelinskaite, Julie Poulsen, Marija Medelinskaite, Grace Lindberg, Mia Cleary, Viktorija Senkute and Luci Derrick, shave more than seven seconds off its time from Friday, and overtook Tulsa for the victory.
In the second race of the day, UCF's Second Varsity Eight continued the trend, collecting the win in 6:31.20. The boat, consisting of Nicole Mayer, Lara Maule, Rachel Rabinowitz, Alyssa Ramos, Sydney Hays, Rusne Dziugyte, Shannon Perry, Leslie Lajoie and Michaela Gundrum, followed the Varsity Eight's lead, shaving more than 17 seconds off its Friday time and jumped from a fifth place finish to earn the victory.
The Third Varsity Eight, consisting of Taylor Jenko, Caitlin Thompson, Jordan Jahosky, Eileen Acken, Nicole Snyder, Demi Dorsey, Tatum Cox, Anna Edkins and Jessica Scales, made it three consecutive races with faster times. The boat finished fourth, crossing the line in 7:08.65.
UCF's Varsity Four, consisting of Jillian Jernas, Abbie Pritchard, Maria Yim, Magdalena Pasternak and Paula Parks, raced faster than Friday, finishing fourth in 7:25.47.
The Second Varsity Four gave UCF a faster boat in all five of its races on Saturday. The boat, consisting of Ciera Jarrett, Danielle Wilson, Darby Brooks, Jessica Matteson and Jacinta Kendall, finished third with a time of 7:31.53.
UCF returns to racing at the two-day Clemson Invite, beginning April 14.
