ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – UCF softball continues play in the American Athletic Conference with a three-game series with the UConn Huskies. The action begins on Friday with a doubleheader slated for a 1 p.m. start time followed by a Sunday matinee to cap off the weekend at 12 p.m.
In conference play, the Knights are 5-1 and 25-13 overall after taking down No. 4 Florida Wednesday evening.
Alea White picked up her 19th win on Wednesday throwing a one-hitter against the Gators keeping her at second in the nation for most wins.
In conference play, freshman Denali Schappacher paces the Knights with a .333 batting average, while Kyra Klarkowski is close behind hitting .313.
Senior Megan Greenwell is proving to be one of the fastest in the conference stealing 12 bases on the year for the Knights.
THE FIELD
UConn: The Huskies are 13-23 overall and 0-6 in The American and heading into the weekend on a seven-game losing streak. The Huskies last victory came on March 17 against Marist where they pulled off a 3-1 win.
The Knights are 14-2 all-time against UConn and 9-1 since joining The American. In last year's series, Cassady Brewer went 4-for-9 with a 1.222 slugging percentage, two homers, and six RBI. Courtney Rotton and Jazmine Esparza each provided three hits for the Knights as they took the series from the Huskies in Orlando.
RECAPPING THE LAST UCF OUTING
In front of a record-breaking sellout crowd of 1,236, Cassady Brewer went 3-for-3 in the shutout over Florida driving in the lone run of the game for the 1-0 win.
White turned in a one-hit performance, collecting her 19th win and seventh shutout of the season. The outing also served as her 19th complete game. White and the UCF defense held Florida to its fewest hits this season. The Gators' previous low was a three-hit effort in a 5-0 loss against FIU on March 28, 2018.
The last time the Knights defeated the Gators came on April 11, 2012 in Orlando when UCF shut out then-No. 3 Florida, 2-0.
