Scoring Frenzy Friday

CLEARWATER, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - The Knights softball team made it five straight wins after taking down Chattanooga, 3-1, and St. Joseph's, 9-1, Friday evening in the Under Armour Showcase in Clearwater, Fla.

Megan Greenwell, Jazmine Esparza, Aubrey Johnson, Kyra Klarkowski, and Courtney Rotton each racked up three hits and seven Knights hit over .425 in the two games. Cassady Brewer and Johnson homered in the two wins and Rotton registered a triple.

Greenwell recorded her 48th career stolen base putting her at 7th all-time in program history surpassing Stephanie Best.

Alea White threw 7.2 innings allowing one unearned run and only four hits while striking out eight as she moves to 11-5 on the season.

Game One
Chattanooga drew first blood stringing together a pair of hits to go up 1-0 on the Knights. UCF quickly answered in the second after Brewer hammered a ball over the left field fence to even up the score.

White and the defense shut down the Mocs for the rest of the game and the Knights' offense tacked on two more runs in the fourth inning after Klarkowski delivered a single up the middle scoring Kendyl Lange. Klarkowski then came around to score on a Chattanooga miscue to make the final score 3-1.

White threw a complete game giving up just four hits and fanning six Mocs for her eleventh win of the season.

Game Two
The Knights' bats continued to heat up against St. Joseph's as UCF recorded 12 hits and run-ruled the Hawks by crossing the plate nine times in five innings to St. Joseph's lone run.

UCF had a four-run second inning collecting six singles. Brewer, Johnson, Klarkowski, and Esparza hit four straight singles to score a run and load the bases for Tamesha Glover. Glover drew a bases loaded walk to put the Knights up, 2-0. Brooke Barlow stepped in the box and singled through the right side to drive in Glover and Esparza to make it 4-0.

The Knights momentum continued in the third after Johnson blasted a shot over the left field wall for two RBI. Klarkowski then ripped another singled and was able to score after a St. Joseph's error to make it 7-0.

The UCF offense registered two more runs in the fourth and the fifth to run-rule the Hawks for their 15th victory of the season.

Kamryn Toney got the start in the circle and went 4.1 innings giving up only one run to improve to 2-2 on the season.
