ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) –The home stand continues for UCF softball as they host the Princeton Tigers on Wednesday, March 21 for a doubleheader slated for start times of 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Both games will be streamed live on Knights.tv.
The Knights are 17-11 on the year as they prepare for conference play, which begins on Friday.
In The American, UCF is in the top half in fielding percentage, triples per game, earned run average, and double plays per game.
Alea White is still proving to be one of the top pitchers in the country with a 12-7 record ranking in the top 20 in the country in wins and top 25 in shutouts with four.
Freshman Denali Schappacher paces the Knights with a .333 batting average and is a stalwart in the outfield, while Megan Greenwell leads the squad in hits (25) and stolen bases (6). Kaitlyn Jensen progresses at the plate with a .652 slugging percentage and paces UCF in doubles (5), home runs (6), and RBI (16).
THE FIELD
Princeton: 1-13 overall; The Knights are 3-0 in the series with the Tigers with the last meeting in 2015, a 3-2 Knights win.
RECAPPING LAST WEEK
The Knights are looking to bounce back after a pair of losses to UTSA and Georgia Southern at home last week. White threw 9.1 innings including a complete game against UTSA. In the loss to the Roadrunners, White struck out 10 UTSA batters, a career-high for the sophomore. She allowed three earned runs on nine hits in her 9.1 innings for a 2.25 ERA.
At second base, Aubrey Johnson was 3-for-7 for a .429 average on offense, scored a run, and registered a double for the Knights. She also carried a .571 slugging percentage in the double-header.
Jazmine Esparza started both games at first base and was solid at the plate. She went 3-for-6 including a double for four total bases. Her .667 slugging percentage paced the Knights in their double-header. In the field, she collected 11 putouts and posted a perfect fielding percentage
