ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) –The Knight's softball team is back home on Wednesday, March 14 at the UCF Softball Complex to face UTSA and Georgia Southern to begin their eight-game home stand.
UCF will take on UTSA first at 10:30 a.m. followed by Georgia Southern at 3:30 p.m. The battle with Georgia Southern will feature a pie eating contest in celebration of pi day. Both games will include live stats and a live stream via UCFknights.tv.
The Knights' pitching continues to excel as Alea White remains in the top five in the nation with 12 victories and top 15 in shutouts with four.
Kaitlyn Jensen and Denali Schappacher are having exploding seasons as first-year Knights. Schappacher paces UCF in batting average (.349) and is second in hits (22) and stolen bases (4). Jensen carries a .694 slugging percentage and leads the team with six homers through 26 games, the fastest of UCF player to accomplish this feat in program history.
THE FIELD
- UTSA: 12-10 overall and 2-1 in Conference USA; Wednesday will be the first meeting for the Knights and Roadrunners.
- Georgia Southern: 15-7 overall and 2-1 in the Sun Belt Conference; UCF has won the only meeting between the Knights and Eagles.
RECAPPING LAST WEEKEND
UCF came home from a five-game set in Clearwater with a 4-1 record defeating Chattanooga (3-1), St. Joseph's (9-1), Southern Illinois (8-3), and Quinnipiac (7-1). The Knights lone loss was to Western Michigan in a 6-3 loss.
Megan Greenwell paced the Knights with a .500 batting average going 7-for-14 at the plate scoring four times and collected seven total bases. The senior recorded her 48th career stolen base putting her at 7th all-time in program history surpassing Stephanie Best.
Courtney Rotton recorded 13 total bases on six hits including a home run and two triples in the Under Armour Showcase. Rotton knocked in four and scored five runs carrying a 1.000 slugging percentage.
Cierra Word snagged her first win as a Knight throwing four innings against Quinnipiac allowing only two hits and no runs. She is 1-0 on the season and keeping opposing batters to a .154 batting average.
The Knights delivered a total of six home runs in five games with Cassady Brewer blasting two, and Jensen, Aubrey Johnson, Jazmine Esparza, and Rotton adding a home run each to the list.
