ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF track and field team heads to Birmingham to defend its indoor title at the two-day American Athletic Conference Championship at the Birmingham CrossPlex.

The Knights captured the first indoor title as members of The American last season, using a third place finish from the 4x400 relay team to edge Cincinnati by two points in the team standings.

Eleven members of the championship squad returns to the Birmingham CrossPlex for the 2018 championship meet. Two-time 800-meter champion Rosie Chamberlain looks to defend her title. The senior currently holds the second-fastest time entering the weekend meet.

Natosha Jordan returns in the high jump after a second place finish during her rookie campaign. The sophomore will also represent the Black and Gold in the pentathlon.

Jhane' Carter and Gabby Durant added important points for the Knights in the weight throw last season, and will again compete in the event this year. Durant enters the weekend with the second-best mark, and Carter has the sixth-best distance in the league. Shanell Atkins, who has the ninth-best mark in the weight throw, will join the pair in both that event and the shot put.

Briana Potter returns in the triple jump after adding three points to the team score last year. She will enter Saturday's event ranked 15th in the conference.

Shaniya Williams will make her conference championship debut. The freshman sprinter holds the eighth-fastest time among conference competitors in the 60-meter dash and is 14th in the 200-meter dash.

Ebony Crear, who just missed advancing to the finals in last season's 400-meter, enters Friday's preliminaries with the sixth-best time among league competitors.
