ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - Monday marked the beginning of the spring semester on the UCF campus. The Knights not only returned to the classroom, but also to the field. UCF held its first practice at the UCF Softball Complex in preparation for the 2018 campaign.
The Knights are one month away from the season opener against Louisville in the Friends of Jaclyn Invitational at Soldier's Creek Park and were excited to be back on the field with their teammates.
"We came out with a lot of enthusiasm, because we saw how we are going to push each other this weekend. We also had a really good infield," sophomore infielder Jazmine Esparza said. "The outfield looked great as long as we come together on our relays."
It was cool 69 degrees for the session under cloudy skies. UCF was able to knock the rust off and went through defensive drills, team defense and hitting off the coaches.
"Over the break, we did not have the coaches with us and those extra eyes on us," freshman Kaitlyn Jensen said. "It was great to have the coaches there this practice and a couple players providing encouragement."
The Knights will continue their preparations for the season each afternoon. The season-opening Friends of Jacklyn Invitational is set for Feb. 9-11 and features Butler, Illinois, Louisville, North Carolina, North Florida, Providence and South Alabama.
