ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - Learning how to network, interview, and talk with future employers is something that the office of Student-Athlete Welfare & Development (SAWD) places an emphasis on for every student-athlete before they graduate and begin thier careers. By starting the process of learning these skills now, student-athletes are equipped with the tools to start their career.
The mock interview session is an event the SAWD office holds every semester to help student-athletes learn proper business etiquette and make connections with local and regional companies. This semester, a total of 41 student-athletes attended the event as well as 20 employers from various companies/businesses.
The event is open to all junior and senior Knights and serves as a representation of the culmination of all the programs the SAWD office puts on throughout the year. Prior to the mock interview session, student-athletes receive programming on resumes, career exploration, professional dress, personal finance, etc. in their freshman and sophomore year, building the foundation for an event where they will have the opportunity to interact with employers.
Just as a student-athlete puts in the hours of practice in their respective sport, the SAWD office provides opportunities to practice their business etiquette and learn how to market themselves to the business world. Student-athletes have daily schedules filled with practice, class and other obligations on campus, so it can sometimes be difficult for them to have internships during the school year or summer.
The next mock interview session is set for Spring 2018. If you are an employer or would like to get involved as a business partner for this event please contact the Director of Student-Athlete Welfare & Development, Ben Rodriguez, at brodriguez@athletics.ucf.edu.
