ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – A double overtime victory over No. 4 North Carolina returned the UCF women's soccer team to a position it hadn't been in since the 2015 campaign – the United Soccer Coaches Top 25.
The Knights checked in at No. 24 in Tuesday's poll, and are one of just two American Athletic Conference squads (SMU) featured.
UCF is no stranger to the United Soccer Coaches – previously known as the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) – rankings. From Dec. 2011 until Sept. 2015, the Knights had been ranked or receiving votes in every NSCAA poll, and earned a nod in the preseason poll last year.
The Knights are ranked fifth in the Southeast region, jumping seven spots with the win over the Tar Heels.
On Monday, a pair of Knights were recognized by the American Athletic Conference for their outstanding performances against North Carolina. Senior Christine Creighton was named the Offensive Player of the Week, while freshman Dina Orschmann was tabbed as Rookie of the Week.
UCF returns to action on Friday, heading to Tempe, Ariz. for the Sun Devil Desert Classic. The Knights face Arizona on Sept. 1 and Arizona State on Sept. 3.
