ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – UCF women's basketball alum Joslyn Massey has been nominated for the 2017 NCAA Woman of the Year award.
Massey is in the running with a record 543 female student-athletes representing multiple sports across NCAA Divisions I, II and III that will be announced on Tuesday. She is one of 78 student-athletes competing in women's basketball across all three divisions. The American Athletic Conference has 12 candidates in consideration for the honor, and Massey is one of three women's basketball student-athletes.
The Detroit, Mich., native suited up for the Knights from 2015-17, and saw action in 61 games with 38 starts during her tenure. She averaged 7.1 points per game and 7.1 rebounds per contest during her two years in Black and Gold. Off the court, she spent over 72 hours volunteering, including full days of mentoring youth in the area.
Massey earned her degree in interdisciplinary studies with a minor in mass communication in December and is currently seeking a second degree in mechanical engineering.
From here, The American will select two nominees to continue on in the award selection process. The Woman of the Year selection committee will select the top 10 honorees in each division from this pool to be recognized. The top nine finalists (three from each division) will be voted on by the NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics to determine the 2017 Woman of the Year.
The Top 30 honorees will be celebrated and the 2017 NCAA Woman of the Year winner will be announced at the annual award ceremony Oct. 22 in Indianapolis.
