Bitten by the Tigers

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - The UCF baseball team took a tough 9-4 loss against Memphis Saturday at the UCF Baseball Complex. With the series now even at one game each, the rubber match will be played on Sunday at 11:30 a.m.

It was the third inning that was the difference Saturday, as the Tigers sent 13 batter to the plate. Memphis scored nine runs on six hits and two errors before the home team could stop the bleeding.

UCF tried to battle back in the bottom half of the inning, scoring three runs on five-straight singles. After a fly ball recorded out number one, a line drive to first base ended the rally as the runner at first was doubled up.

The Knights would manufacture one more run in the seventh inning after a two-out bunt single by short stop Brennan Bozeman. Left fielder Kyle Marsh then reached on an error before designated hitter Ryan Crile added a single up the middle.

Bozeman turned for home on the play but a good throw from the Tigers center fielder was on the money to the plate. Bozeman however, made an acrobatic dive over the catcher's right shoulder in order to avoid the tag and score.

Aside from the nine-run third inning, the Knights gave up just six hits and kept the visitors off the board. Right hander Chris Williams threw three and two thirds innings in relief and righty Thad Ward dealt the final three. The two combined for just five hits, seven strikeouts, and one walk.

After bringing home a 7-4 win on Friday night, UCF can still take the series with a victory in Sunday's series finale.
