ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF men's tennis team will host Penn State Wednesday as a part of the 2017 College MatchDay series. The Knights take on the Nittany Lions at 6 p.m., at the USTA National Campus in Lake Nona.
The USTA National Campus's 1,200-seat collegiate stadium will play host to six matches as part of the College MatchDay series.
Coverage of Wednesday's College MatchDay against Penn State will be on ESPN3, WatchESPN and the ESPN app with Kevin Corke and Paul Torchelli calling the action.
The Knights are 7-4 on the season. Last Sunday, UCF defeated Davidson, 6-1. Junior Danny Kerznerman leads the Black and Gold with a 10-1 singles record in dual matches. Junior Korey Lovett sits at No. 44 in the Oracle/ ITA singles rankings. Senior Mariano Porter and redshirt senior Harrison Richmond are ranked No. 78 in the Oracle/ITA doubles rankings.
Penn State enters the match with a 7-2 overall record. In their last outing, the Nittany Lions swept Brown, 4-0, on March 4. Leading PSU in singles is Ben Lieb and Aws Laaribi, who each have a 4-1 records.
This will be UCF's first meeting with Penn State since 2014. The Nittany Lions have a 3-1 lead in the all-time series. During the last meeting, the Knights lost the tight match, 4-3.
In that match, Penn State had jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, but UCF fought back to tie it up, 3-3. Chris Barrus had just started the third set against Matt Barry, they were trading breaks in the beginning. At 3-3 with Barrus serving, Barry broke him and
seized momentum winning the last three games to clinch the match.
Festivities, including a free kids clinic, begins at 4 p.m. There will also be Knightro bobbleheads and mascot pennants available to kids. Rally towels will be giveaway on a first come, first serve basis.
