ORLANDO (UCFKnights.com) - The UCF men's tennis team improved its record to 7-4 after posting a 6-1 victory against Davidson on Sunday afternoon at the USTA National Campus.
The Knights clinched the doubles point to start the match off on a high note. On court two, Korey Lovett and Danny Kerznerman earned a decisive 6-2 victory over Shamael Chaudhry and Jack Riazzi. A 6-4 victory by Chris Barrus and Enrique Paya sealed the deal for UCF on court three.
In singles, it took Kerznerman only one hour to defeat J.B. Gough, 6-1, 6-0, at the No. 5 position.
Mariano Porter added a second singles point to the Knights total on court six. The senior took the first set deftly, 6-2. The Cuernavaca, Mexico native used the momentum to quickly take the second, 6-3.
Barrus clinched the match for the Knights on court three. The senior posted a 6-3 first set victory. The Naples, Fla., native skillfully went up 5-2 in the second. After three concise points, he put the finishing touch on the match with a long rally ending with a reaching cross court volley, on the run.
Lovett went toe-for-toe with Shamael Chaudhry on the top court. UCF's junior used a powerful 6-4 first set victory to propel him into the second. The players went back and forth tying it up at 5-5 before Lovett put an end to it, winning the last two consecutive games.
Harrison Richmond added the last singles victories for the Knights. The redshirt senior battled for the first set, earning a 6-4 win. With the wind blowing steadily, Richmond loaded up and significantly clinched the second, 6-2.
UCF's next match will be an USTA College MatchDay on Wednesday night against Penn State. The match is slated for a 6 p.m. start. A free kids clinic and other festivities will begin at 4 p.m.
