GREENSBORO, N.C. (UCFKnights.com) – The No. 22 UCF women's golf team traveled to North Carolina for the Bryan National Collegiate this week. The tournament will serve as a final tune up before the American Athletic Conference Championship as 18 teams will do battle on the 6,386-yard par 72 Champions Course at Bryan Park.
The event us a special one for UCF head coach Emily Marron, as she hosted the event for nine years at the helm of UNCG program prior to coming to UCF. Marron also competed in the inaugural event in 1998 as a member of the Penn State squad.
"This course always provides a true test," Marron said. "Four of our five starters have played in this event before and that experience should serve us well."
The Knights have played well this season, finishing in the Top 10 in all eight events thus far. The team has finished third twice, including the Suntrust Gator Women's Invite, team's most recent event in early March.
Senior Ashley Holder has led the way, turning in the Knight's best performance in six events. She tied fourth in the Gator Invite and leads the Black and Gold with a 71.7 season-scoring average.
Fellow seniors Johanna Larsson and Ayaka Nakayama will join Holder in the starting lineup, along with sophomore Anna Hack and freshman Maria Balcazar.
"We are building confidence with each event," Marron added. "I know this team is on the verge of breaking through with some big performances."
Friday's opening round is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. with the Knights taking the tee starting at 9:15 a.m. Click here to follow along via live scoring.
