ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The UCF track and field team returns to action at the 2017 Pepsi Florida Relays. The three-day event, hosted by the University of Florida, begins Thursday at the Percy Beard Track in Gainesville.
The Knights opened outdoor action with the Black and Gold Challenge on March 17. On the first day, a pair of Knights – Precious Williams and Gabby Durant – set personal records in the javelin and hammer throw, respectively. Saturday action included four event titles, including a top-four time nationally in the 4x400 meter relay. The squad closed out the weekend with a winning mark of 3:42.42.
The SEC Network + will broadcast the 2017 Pepsi Florida Relays on Friday and Saturday. One of the nation's premier track and field events, the three-day meet features 11 ranked women's programs and 94 collegiate squads.
Ashton McMurray and Brittany Gill will start it off for the Knights, as they are both set to compete in the 5,000-meter run on Thursday night at 9 p.m.
On Friday, UCF's field events begin at noon with Gabby Durant in the hammer throw and Tayla Greene in the discus. Johna' Whitaker opens the running events with the 100-meter hurdles at 12:15 p.m. Kalleigh Forrester wraps up the day with the 3000-meter steeplechase at 9:20 p.m.
The relay teams hit the track on Saturday. The Knights will compete in the 4x100, 4x800, 4x200 and distance medley. Jhane' Carter will also compete in the shot put at 3:30 p.m.
