ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) - A pair of Knights set personal bests on the opening day of the Black and Gold Challenge at the UCF Track and Field Complex on Friday.

Precious Williams set the tone for the outdoor season as her second toss of the day set a personal record in the javelin. Her distance of 136-10/41.71m ranks 12th on the outdoor performance list, and gave the sophomore a second place finish in the event.

In the second event of the day, four Knights competed in the hammer throw, with three advancing to the finals.

Sophomore Gabby Durant threw a personal best 174-2/53.10m to finish sixth in the final standings. Her first throw of the day moved her into the finals, and ranks 15th on the outdoor performance list.

Senior Chelsea Gobourne finished third in the event. Her first throw in the finals went 188-3/57.38m, which ranks eighth on the outdoor performance list. Senior Tayla Greene took fifth place with a distance of 175-4/53.44m. Her third attempt of the day advanced her to the finals, and ranks 13th on the outdoor performance list.

Sophomore Jhane' Carter's final throw of the day was also her furthest, landing at 162-3/49.46m.

The Knights continue action at the Black and Gold Challenge on Saturday. The day will start at 11 a.m., as UCF hosts an Autism Awareness event on IOA Plaza. A 1,000-meter run/walk/jog will take place at 1 p.m. The field events begin at 11 a.m. with the women's discus, long jump and pole vault. Running events will follow the Autism Awareness Walk, with the steeplechase set for a 2 p.m. start time.
