ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – UCF holds its Military/First Responders Knight on Tuesday with a 4 p.m. doubleheader against Iowa State. Admission is free for all fans courtesy of CFE.
 
The first 300 fans though the gates receive a draw-string bag. The Knights will be recognizing the Learning Institute for Elders (LIFE) at UCF group, along with local Military and First Responders throughout the doubleheader.
 
UCF
The Knights are 13-9 after posting victories against Delaware State and Mercer at the UCF Wilson/DeMarini Tournament. UCF took a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning with a pair of runs vs. No. 16 Georgia on Mar. 11, but the Bulldogs scored twice in the seventh frame to hand the Knights a tough 6-5 defeat.
 
Senior Linnea Goodman leads the team with a .379 batting average and six doubles. A .348 batting average, two homers and 14 RBI have been recorded by junior Courtney Rotton.
 
UCF has been aggressive on the base paths, swiping 45 bases on the season. Junior Megan Greenwell is a team-best 12-for-12 in stolen bases.
 
Freshman Alea White (7-6) has seen a majority of the action in the circle. The Land O'Lakes, Fla., native has compiled a 3.24 ERA with 46 strikeouts in 77.2 innings of work.
 
Another first-year hurler, Kamryn Toney (4-1), has been impressive. She leads the team with a 2.60 ERA.
 
Iowa State
The Cyclones are 10-14 on the campaign with victories that include Southern Miss, Ball State, Utah State and Seton Hall.
 
Pacing the Iowa State offense is Kelsey McFarland with a .458 batting average and nine stolen bases. A total of 15 runs have been driven in by Talyn Lewis on four doubles and four homers. Four round trippers have also been blasted by Sami Williams.
 
The pitching staff for Iowa State features the duo of Savannah Sanders (3-6) and Brianna Weilbacher (5-6) who have each appeared in over 60 innings. A team-best 88 strikeouts in 61.0 innings of work have been registered by Weilbacher, who has a 3.33 ERA.
 
Series History
This is the first meeting between UCF and Iowa State.
 
Next Up
The Knights face their third Big 12 foe of the season with a weekend series against No. 15 Baylor. The three-game set begins on Friday at 6 p.m. at the UCF Softball Complex.
