ORLANDO (UCFKnights.com) - Current volleyball player Halle Scott has been honored with the most prestigious award a UCF student can receive. Scott was named to the Order of Pegasus Wednesday.
"Being named an Order of Pegasus recipient is a huge honor," Scott said. "Joining such an elite group of students is the best way I could imagine to end my undergraduate career and it further motivates me to strive to be the best I can be in every aspect of life."
Undergraduate students are chosen for Order of Pegasus each year based on their outstanding achievement in the areas of academic achievement, university involvement, leadership and community service. Graduate students are selected based on the same merits as well as publication or research experiences. Because of the breadth of accomplishments required for this award, the Order of Pegasus is the highest student award that can be attained at the university.
"Halle embodies all of the qualities of an Order of Pegasus recipient," Director of Athletics and Vice President Dr. Daniel White said. "She is invested in making a difference on campus, in the community and with her teammates in competition. She has developed outstanding skills during her time as a student-athlete here at UCF. We're very proud of Halle and all that she has accomplished as a Knight. She is certainly deserving of this honor."
The winners will be honored at a ceremony this spring. Scott becomes the 10th Knight student-athlete to be honored with the Order of Pegasus. Of more than 63,000 students, only 21 were honored this year.
Scott has an impressive list of qualifications. She currently holds a 3.928 grade-point-average and is enrolled in the Burnett Honors College. Scott is also a two-time President's List and Dean's List honoree. She is set to earn her bachelor's degree in Marketing in May 2017. Scott is currently applying for graduate programs. She was placed on the American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team her first two seasons and also helped the volleyball program to two AVCA Team Academic Awards.
In her spare time, Scott has volunteered with multiple organizations over the past three years. During her freshman season, she partnered with Orange County Public Schools and was a member of the American Athletic Conference championship team. Her sophomore year, she volunteered with Knights Without Borders in St. Vincent and was a volunteer during Relay for Life. She is currently a Marketing and Branding Intern at Primary Wave Entertainment. During her three years at UCF, she has also been a volleyball camp coach.
"What a tremendous honor for an incredible young lady," said head volleyball coach Todd Dagenais. "Halle has worked so hard on and off the court to represent herself, her family and our program at the highest possible capacity. To be the 10th member of the athletic department in the history of the university to receive this award -- and the second volleyball player -- is a tremendous honor for her and for the program. She has done so many things on and off the court to earn this but so do thousands of other students. For her to be selected into this elite group, it's something that she will remember for the rest of her life."
